De 2018 à 2025, la Fondation Facim et ses partenaires ont développé un projet innovant de valorisation de l’exceptionnel patrimoine des vallées de Savoie, du Mont-Blanc et des Alpes-Maritimes.
Les Hautes vallées de Savoie, le Pays du Mont-Blanc en Haute-Savoie et les vallées de Roya et Bévéra dans les Alpes-Maritimes partagent un patrimoine commun : l’art baroque alpin. Théâtral, coloré et doré, il s’est répandu dans les états de la Maison de Savoie aux 17e et 18e siècles, impulsé par ses princes et par l’Église catholique.
De 2018 à 2025, la Fondation Facim et les acteurs de ces trois territoires, soutenus par l’Union européenne, l’Etat et les 3 départements, ont mis leurs forces en commun pour vous proposer de nouvelles expériences autour de cet art.
Un cycle mené en partenariat avec les huit espaces valléens du Pays du Mont-Blanc, des Hautes vallées de Savoie et de la Riviera française.
Projet financé avec le concours de l’Union européenne et de l’Etat.
L’Europe s’engage sur le Massif Alpin avec le Fonds Européen de Développement Régional.

Une histoire qui vous conduira du Léman à la Méditerranée, par les voies royales ou les sentiers les plus escarpés.
Une histoire humaine qui vous plongera au cœur d’un territoire aux frontières oubliées et de la civilisation alpine traditionnelle où profane et sacré n’hésitent pas à se mélanger.
Une histoire sans fin qui commence au XVIe siècle et continue de s’écrire, une histoire faite d’émotions et de révélations, d’attendu et de surprenant, d’inédit et d’inénarrable, de palpable et d’indéfinissable.

Les Escapades baroques dans les Alpes ont popularisé pendant 7 ans un nouveau regard sur le baroque, grâce à des visites réinventées, des expériences mêlant découverte et randonnée, des ateliers pour les enfants, des créations artistiques originales, des spectacles...
La Fondation Facim et le Pays du Mont Blanc continuent à faire vivre l'art baroque à tous les publics, dans des paysages d'exception.

Chapelle Saint-Jacques d'Assyrie (Boudin/Arêches)
Small chapel located in the hamlet of Boudin, featuring rural houses arranged in a traditional, staggered, step-like formation, nestled into the slope. A thin spire with double bulb bell tower signals the presence of the chapel.

From the 11th century, a church was built in the market town of Flumet, and it was said that the tower was part of the fortified enclosure that protected the city...
Eglise Saint-Martin
Although the bell tower is much older, the spire itself was rebuilt in 1889 according Eglise Saint-Martin the double distinction of having the most southerly and most modern bulb-shaped clocktower in the department!
Eglise Saint Jean-Baptiste (Arêches)
The Eglise Saint Jean Baptiste in Arêches is a fine, homogeneous example of Savoyard Baroque art, well worth a visit. With its basilica-style floor plan and particularly luminous altarpiece, the interior of the church creates a surprising contrast with the exterior.
Eglise Saint-Nicolas (Macôt)
This bell tower, with its imperial-style roof with two domes, can be seen from a long way off. It was decapitated in 1794 and rebuilt twenty years later, in the same architectural style. Its curved lines give a taster of the Baroque décor to be found on the inside!
Saint-Sébastien chapel (Lanslevillard)
On a rock, not far from the village church, stands Chapelle Saint-Sébastien. With its modest exterior, it is almost indistinguishable from the surrounding dwellings but once over the threshold, you'll be amazed by the wealth of riches on display!
Saint-François-de-Sales Church
Here, we take care of our onions: The bell tower, with its double bulbous spire, has one of the most recognisable silhouettes in Savoy!
The interior decoration is a fine example of the persistence of baroque inspiration beyond the Revolution.

Its frontage ornament with painted scenes prefigures the Baroque design inside.
Saint Maurice Church
The church of St. Maurice was transformed and enlarged in the 17th century. It retains the baroque alpine decor of its altarpieces, carved, polychromatic and gilded, including the main altarpiece dedicated to St. Maurice of Agaune.
Church of Saint-Barthélemy (Granier)
On the "sunny slope", where the farming economy has long reigned supreme, step inside the church in Granier and, between the statues of St. Barthélémy and St. Grat, make a wish to ensure you have an abundant harvest...of discoveries!
Sanctuaire ND-de-la-Vie (St-Martin-de-Belleville)
The church sanctuary, located between St Martin and the hamlet of St Marcel, remains today one of the major pilgrimage sites in Savoie. It was built between 1635 and 1680, with an original layout of a central hanging cupola with chapels radiating out from it.
Chapelle Saint-Antoine
What can you discover in this chapel? First 40 juxtaposed painted panels recounting the life of Christ, but in the local context and with details of peasant life from medieval times ... And much more!
Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption (Lanslebourg)
Although the church was built between 1820 and 1830, it remains true to the Baroque spirit, embodying the contrasts associated with the age: an austere exterior concealing a richly decorated interior. You'll be surprised by the harmonious mix of works of art from across the centuries.

Church of St. Bernard of Menthon
At the heart of this international winter sports resort, St. Bernard of Menthon, patron saint of skiers and protector of travellers and alpine mountain passes, is worshipped in this solid mountain church, one of the surviving traces of the original village.
Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption
The Church and its Romanesque bell tower, which stand at the heart of the village, are a must for any visitor. The stone and slate exterior looks rather unpromising but inside, a magical interior, filled with gold and colour, await you!
Eglise Saint-Michel (Lanslevillard)
Exceptional: reopening after restoration! Characteristic of Savoyard Baroque, this church dates back to the Middle Ages. Marvel at the relics of Saint Landry, a monk from the Novalaise abbey, and take a trip back in time...
Eglise Notre-Dame (Aime)
The first church, perched on a hill, was replaced in the 13th-14th centuries by a Romanesque building, constructed at the foot of the hill. The church was extended between 1675 and 1678 and today features a chancel and vaulted ceiling adorned with a host of holy characters.
Notre Dame de l'Assomption Baroque Church
Typical of the 17th century baroque art in Savoy, this church was consecrated in 1682 by His Grace Hercule Berzetti, Maurienne's Bishop.
With a restrained external appearance, it is inside that the church reveals its beauty.
Chapelle ND-de-Bon-secours (Villes Dessus/Beaufort)
This tiny chapel, half way between the villages and mountain pastures, is full of surprises, concealing an array of extraordinary Baroque objects.
Eglise Saint-Laurent (Sardières)
The small bell tower, attached to Eglise Saint-Laurent, rises high into the air, dwarfing those of other churches, thanks to its unique location. Step inside the tiny building,via its small vestibule, and discover a surprising world of colour!
Saint Maxime Church
This imposing building with its austere exterior, located in the village centre, houses a wealth of Baroque riches. Climb the steps, open the door and discover them for yourself.
Church of St. Maurice
This church, with its façade broadly exposed to the sun, awaits you a little way outside the village, as if encouraging you to meditate facing the mountains! In addition to its late Baroque décor, this church has an interesting collection of reliquaries.
La Giettaz church
The church of La Giettaz, dedicated to Saint Pierre-aux-Liens, was rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century to replace the medieval building. Its bulbous bell tower and its furniture make it a fine example of late Savoyard Baroque.
Chaucisse church
Large chapel or small church? The hamlet of Chaucisse was a very long walk from the parish church… especially in winter! In 1818, therefore, a chapel was erected in the village in order to be able to celebrate services… without the risk of travel.
Chapelle Saint-Jacques (Villemartin)
Chapelle Saint-Jacques is the oldest and largest chapel in the parish and resembles a genuine church. Step inside and discover its three colourful altarpieces and learn about the expertise and knowhow of artists from the Baroque period.
Saint-André Church
The church of St. Andrew was built in 1676 by Louis Billiot and Aimé Riondet, and at the time was decorated in the Baroque style. In 1845, when the church was redecorated, the Neogothic style was in vogue, although this did not prevent certain Baroque elements being preserved.
Church of Saint-Jacques-d'Assyrie
This church, located in the village centre, will dazzle you with its stunning interior and exterior. You'll be stunned by its amazing decorative elements, from its bell tower with bulb-shaped dome to its gilt altarpieces.
Church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens
The church at La Giettaz, dedicated to Saint Pierre-aux-Liens, was rebuilt in the mid-19th century to replace the medieval edifice. Its bulbous bell tower and furnishings make it a fine example of late Savoyard Baroque.
Saint-Pierre Church
Do not trust the austere outer appearance of this church in Naves. Several altarpieces resplendent with gold and bright colours, a floral décor that has recently been refreshed and statues that could be stage actors all await you inside!
Saint Nicolas la Chapelle church
This baroque church dedicated to Saint Nicolas dates from the 18th century. It is remarkable for its bell tower with double lantern, its sculpted porch, its frescoes and its canopy altar. Do not miss this last ornament: it is unique in Savoie!
