Bon à savoir
The church at La Giettaz, dedicated to Saint Pierre-aux-Liens, was rebuilt in the mid-19th century to replace the medieval edifice. Its bulbous bell tower and furnishings make it a fine example of late Savoyard Baroque.
The village's first church was built at the very end of the 14th century. Just imagine, before it was built, the Giettois went to mass, risking their lives in winter, in Flumet for the villagers, and in Megève for the inhabitants of the Plan hamlet!
While the exterior is admirable for its majestic bulbous bell tower with two lanterns, the interior of the vast building owes its originality to its Greek cross plan: this choice enabled the creation of a central dome, which was frescoed in 1848. Raise your eyes to the sky: restored in the spring of 1999, their colors await your gaze!
In 1732, a sculpted altarpiece was installed, paid for by the Giettois who had emigrated to Paris.
Today's main altarpiece, dating from 1849, reuses some of this earlier decoration (the pale green part with the torso columns), so it retains the vitality born of the Baroque spirit.
