Today's Chapelle du Saint-Esprit takes its name from the chapel near the ski lift bridge, which was washed away by the Arc in June 1957, along with two hotels and several houses.
Descriptif détaillé
The new chapel was built in 1962 to accommodate worshippers in winter, when the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church upstream was unheatable and difficult to access due to snow.
Its history is linked to the presence of Abbé Ponce, Bessans' parish priest from 1958 to 1997. He was both site manager and mason, designing the chapel itself, the rectory and a basement cinema.
